Years ago in southern highland homes, farmhouses, and cabins, the fireplace hearth was the focal point of family
life. When chores were done, the hearth was the backdrop for social life and entertainment — banjo and fiddle
music, songs, dancing, and storytelling. Over the years, twice-told tales have become thrice-told tales — embellished and polished by storytellers
in the mountains.
