John Henry Moss spent half a century as the driving force behind the South Atlantic League. Bob Terrell has spent nearly as many years writing about it. The result of their collaboration is a celebration of minor league baseball, a history of the Sally League, and a biography of the league's founder and fifty-year president.
Rich in baseball history and filled with the stories of the SAL's players, managers, umpires, and club owners, John Henry Moss: Baseball’s Miracle Man is a sure bet for any fan of America's national pastime.
John Henry Moss has known many honors over his lifetime, including induction into five sports Halls of Fame, the King of Baseball award, and the North Carolina Order of the Long Leaf Pine.
To recognize Moss’s fifty-year contribution to baseball, the SAL has retired #50 throughout the league, an honor previously accorded only to Jackie Robinson. Stadiums across the Southeast will erect bronze plaques to honor John Henry Moss’s successful efforts to keep the stands full and to provide quality, wholesome, family entertainment at an affordable price.
A native of Sylva, North Carolina, Bob Terrell lived all his life in Western North Carolina. After attending Western Carolina University, he joined the staff of the Asheville Citizen-Times as a sports reporter. For more than fifty years, readers enjoyed Bob Terrell’s daily columns chronicling the fun and foibles of his family, friends, and neighbors. His many humorous columns comprise several of his most popular books, including Fun Is Where You Find It! and A Touch of Terrell.
After retiring from writing daily columns, Bob spent more time writing books and traveling, especially to the Mideastern United States and Israel. Terrell passed away in May of 2009, shortly after seeing the publication of John Henry Moss: Baseball’s Miracle Man.
