Up This Hill and Down brings together a diverse selection of radio commentaries aired on the award-winning NPR affiliate WNCW in Spindale, North Carolina. Lee Ann Woods delves into such diverse topics as her struggle to deal with a relative’s cancer and her sure-fire strategies to make pesky telemarketers think twice before dialing her number.
A self-identified "Mountain Mama" who practices Tai-chi and scarfs down tofu, Lee Ann teaches us how to take life in stride, while leaving enough time to take in a football game. Up This Hill and Down features topics ranging from food, family, and nature to economic justice, regional prejudice, and activism. The reader also rides along as Lee Ann navigates parenting in all its disaster and glory.
Currently she is honing her storytelling skills as an elementary school librarian and is working on her first novel. Her pieces have appeared in various regional and national periodicals, and in the book Chocolate for a Woman’s Blessings.
Lee Ann lives in Asheville, North Carolina, with her husband and their two sons, Gabriel and Blaise. Lee Ann plays the piano and lap dulcimer and takes full advantage of the mountains by hiking, whitewater rafting, and rock climbing with her family.
